Thoughtful Thursday ~ Is there a business that can survive this economy?

While many businesses out there are shutting down, laying people off or slashing wages, there is a company that is not just surviving, but actually thriving and growing. How is that possible? It’s a low cost start up business that provides a way for the average part-time person to make a full time income very quickly.

What is this business? It’s a company that is involved in breakthrough health products, making or buying soy candles and feeding hungry children in the USA. For more information, visit our website at www.MakingYourLifeCount.com and we will contact you.

Mentoring Monday ~ Soy Candle Mentor

What could be better than having your very own soy candle business?

Having a mentor to help you along.

At Nussentials that is exactly what we offer you. You have the opportunity to make your own soy candles, which in itself is a delightful, therapeutic process, but then you have an entire team of mentors standing by to help you build your business.

We believe in the principle that it’s better for all of us to do a little bit than for one person to do a lot and we will all benefit.

Weight-Loss Wednesday: Age Adjustment

I’m sure this is obvious to all of you, but for me, it was a revelation. I had heard that as we age, we need to exercise more in order to stay at the same weight and we also need to adjust our eating. I didn’t pay alot of attention since weight was only a minor concern for me.

However, I started walking 3 times a week and I did notice that my clothes fit better. I did not adjust my eating.

Then last fall I began eating healthy chocolate, which curbed my appetite and over the course of the winter, I lost about 8 pounds, putting me at my wedding weight.

I began walking again this summer (yes, I’m a fair weather walker) and I’m holding right around that weight.

BUT, I have noticed that a few things affect my weight

  1. if I eat ice cream or other fattening items in the evening.
  2. if I don’t walk my 3 days that week
  3. if I eat 3 full meals per day

Chances are, my body is different than yours. :) I have discovered for myself that I need to limit myself to 2 meals a day and it is better if the later one is early in the evening. I also need to substitute breakfast and lunch with a protein shake. If I only substitute one meal, it is too many calories for my 5 foot 2 height.

It’s good to pay attention to your body’s needs. Notice how your weight fluctuates and what is causing it. Keep a food/weight/nutrition diary in order to help you remember.

I have also noticed that my sleep needs are changing. If I don’t get the right hours of sleep, it more easily affects my energy level, which affects my weight. I have never been one to go to bed early, so it is definitely an adjustment for me.

So, in summary, as you age, remember to eat less and exercise more in order to not gain weight.

Mentoring Monday

One of the great resources I have found for mentoring is this online course. This is by far one of the most helpful purchases I have ever made and for a very reasonable price. Mike is very clear and easy to follow as he explains how to build your business both online and offline. He also has a website with free mentoring which will be mentioned in the book…or you can contact me at karebiz@gmail.com and I will give you the website.

There are a lot of good mentors out there, Mike is just one of them. But I have followed him since he first introduced this and his information helped me launch my internet business. It has proven itself to me. Now I plan to use these same principles with my Nussentials business and watch it sky rocket!

Thoughtful Thursday

As a business owner, or even in general, connecting people can be a very thoughtful thing to do. Bob Burg writes about this in his book, Endless Referrals.

In the book he gives many ideas on how to find, create and help others through the use of referrals.

This is a very simple concept, but it takes a certain amount of determination and intention to actually do it rather than just thinking it is a great idea. There are a lot of little preparations you can make to help you begin to implement Bob’s ideas. One would be to always carry a business card and always ask for a business card when you meet a new person. (You can get free business cards at www.vistaprint.com) When you receive someones card, always jot on the back where you met and some interesting facts about them (hint ~ this means you have to ask them a few questions in order to find out the interesting facts). This next part is the often the hardest to put into practice. You need to keep this person in mind when you talk to other people and refer others to them. For example, if you have a good accountant, send others to your accountant. If you meet someone who builds beautiful houses, refer them to others. Before you know it, you will be connecting others and will become a valuable resource. Being well connected means having a large “Rolodex” This is one of the most priceless things you can own and it is irreplaceable.

Weight-Loss Wednesday

Along with a replacement meal, such as the Nussentials LESS smoothie, I would highly recommend a lifestyle with regular exercise, adequate sleep and a healthy diet for weight-loss.

Here is what else I would do:

Breakfast within the hour after you wake: large breakfast with eggs, toast, fresh vitamin c fruit, milk, occasionally cheese, meat or potatos. No second helpings

Dinner: the main meal, served mid-day (4-5 hours after breakfast) Healthy portions of fruit, vegies, meat and grain ~ some cheese. No second helpings

Evening meal: served 4-5 hours after the mid-day meal. If you are trying to lose weight, I would recommend replacing this meal with our weight loss smoothie (LESS) and then not eating for the rest of the evening. If you MUST eat, have fruit, plain raw vegies or air popped pop-corn around 8pm.

  • These are just my opinions and are not to be taken as medical or professional advice.

Therapy Tuesday

Today’s Therapy Tuesday is about our local Wednesday Night Farmers Market. Why do I find it therapeutic? I believe that getting out among people can be very therapeutic if you have the correct frame of mind when doing it. If you are there simply for your own purposes, it may end up being a stressful time, instead of therapeutic. There have been weeks like that where all I wanted was to sell my products and I found that I didn’t enjoy being there as much. HOWEVER, when my purpose for being there is to reach out to others, to help them ~ then my entire focus changes and it can be very therapeutic. I very strongly believe that the products I sell are not only beneficial, but in some cases, life-changing for others and I have a desire to show them how. I know that my products have helped people with severe allergies, achy knees, weight loss, energy, fibromyalgia and more. I am also very passionate about the fact that 5% of every single Nussentials product that I sell goes to feed hungry children in the usa.

I have heard that when a person struggles with depression, one of the best ways for them to overcome it is to reach out to others instead of focusing on their own problems. I believe this principle goes much further than that… even to the local Farmers Market.

Mentoring Monday

In this uncertain economy, many are finding the option of a home business very appealing. There is something to be said for being in control of your own time and having the security that working for someone else doesn’t provide. My candle business is just a small part of what I offer. The bigger picture is a nutrition business called Nussentials. Since our soy candles are healthy, they are included. The best part is, you can be creative and make your own. OR you can buy our already made candles if candle-making isn’t your cup of tea.

To learn more about Nussentials, visit www.MakingYourLifeCount.com and check it out to see if it fits what you are looking for. It will just cost you a few minutes. But if you don’t, it could cost you a fortune.

Thoughtful Thursday

Little things can mean so much. One of the little things that can make a big difference is to tuck a hand-written note somewhere so that they will find it later.

When I know my husband is going to be on a trip, I will sometimes hide a few of these in his overnight bag or his wallet. I have placed them on his pillow here at home or taped them to a mirror. it doesn’t have to say anything eloquent. Here are a couple of ideas:

You are my hero

I’m thinking of you today

I love you (sign with XO and a nickname)

I appreciated when you _______ (fill in the blank)

A timely note can turn someones day around. Never forget to be grateful, appreciative and to SAY SO.

Weight-Loss Wednesday

Weight-loss is definitely a hot topic.  It seems there is a diet out there for every personality.  Weight has only been a minor issue for me and I’m no expert, so I will share with you an article full of great principles that I just found at

http://www.medicinenet.com/weight_loss/article.htm

Introduction to weight loss

Whether you are trying to lose 5 pounds or more than 50, the same simple laws of physics determine whether or not you will lose weight and how fast your weight loss will occur. Remembering these simple guidelines and putting them into practice can lead to weight loss without the aid of any special diet plans, books, or medications.

Our weight is determined by the amount of energy that we take in as food and the amount of energy we expend in the activities of our day. Energy is measured in calories. If your weight remains constant, you are probably taking in the same amount of calories you burn each day. If you’re slowly gaining weight over time, it is likely that your caloric intake is greater than the number of calories you burn through your daily activities.

Everyone is in control of the amount of food he or she consumes each day, so our intake of calories is something we can control. To a major degree, we can also control our output of energy, or the number of calories we burn each day. The number of calories we burn each day is dependent upon

  • our basal metabolic rate (BMR), the number of calories we burn per hour simply by being alive and maintaining body functions and
  • our level of physical activity.

For some people, due to genetic (inherited) factors or other conditions, the resting metabolic rate (BMR) can be slightly higher or lower than average. Our weight also plays a role in determining how many calories we burn at rest — more calories are required to maintain your body in its present state, the greater your body weight. A 100-pound person requires less energy (food) to maintain body weight than a person who weighs 200 pounds.

Lifestyle and work habits partially determine how many calories we need each day. Someone whose job involves heavy physical labor will naturally burn more calories in a day than someone who sits at a desk most of the day (a sedentary job). For people who do not have jobs that require intense physical activity, exercise or increased physical activity can increase the number of calories burned.

As a rough estimate, an average woman 31-50 years of age who leads a sedentary lifestyle needs about 1,800 calories per day to maintain a normal weight. A man of the same age requires about 2,200 calories. Participating in a moderate level of physical activity (exercising three to five days per week) requires about 200 additional calories per day.
